Yup, i get the same problems in H2, Alice, and Oni…I have a 3d Prophet 2 Gts…used to work with factory drivers…before i dl glsetup…i have since deleted glsetup…still same story…i even dl the new Detonator 3 drivers from Nvidia…still doesnt help w/any OpenGl game
MINCHEN!!! U ARE THE F’ing MAN!!!
Tried the semicolon in front of that line and awwwww shiat…i can finally play Alice and everything else… KUDOS BRO!!!
WOOOHOOO…im telling ya…find it folks, as it really works…all i did was click on the windows.ini file and if u go up to the file tab and click find and type it in…ya dont have to search for it…(mine was the very last line) put the ; in and save and poof. MAGIC

According to ATI techs…the RAGEIIc doesn’t support OpenGL…which is why I got rid of mine.
That’s great for Win95. any suggestions for Win2k? I don’t have a DVA setting in my win.ini file. Thanks in advance!

I had the problem with the demo of Heavy Metal F.A.K.K. 2 running under win95 and using the 3D Prophet (GeForce 1).
First of all I installed the newest drivers from NVidia (detonator 3, version 6.31). This helped a little but did not yet start the game.
After that I followed the instructions in one of the posts down here:
Open the win.ini and search for the string “DVA” then set an smikolon in front of DVA and save the win.ini.
After that FAKK 2 started perfectly. I haven´t yet tried it with Star Trek Elite Force Demo or the Quake III Demo but I think it should work also with both of them.
Hope anyone else will be as successful as I was.[/b]
If after trying the above solutions the game still does not work, check the following:
-
Go to Start > Run and in the run box type “Sysedit” without the quotes
and click the OK button. -
When Sysedit comes up you should see a bunch of cascaded windows,
select the window that says Win.ini above it. -
The Win.ini window should come to the foreground,
scroll through the list of items until you come to [DrawDib]. -
Look for a line under [DrawDib] that says DVA=0 and remove it.
-
Click File, then Save and close the Sysedit program.
-
Try the game at this point.
If you do not see the DVA=0 line under the [DrawDib] section,
then this is not the cause of your problem. DVA stands for Direct Video Access,
and is commonly set to 0 to fix issues with older games or video problems with old software.
Unfortunately it causes Quake 3 Arena to not recognize OpenGL
support on your system as well.
The only way to fix this is to remove that line.
This should not affect anything on your syste

I opened the Sysedit program and searched under the win.ini window for the line DVA but it was not there. What now?
Hey guys
I have three possible solutions to your probe:
- the drivers for your graphic cards, get the latest ones
- the DVA=0 line in the win.ini remove it and it should work
and the third, the one that might help:
look in your regedit for anything that says Quake 3 Arena. Isn’t there any entry for it then get a patch for Quake 3 and install it. It places an entry in your registry. Now it should work, it did at least for me the first time. It might be the same probe for win2k users. Give it a try…

Thanks for getting my quake3 arena to work, you’re a star, I was close - closer than closer, closer than you ever can imagine to reinstalling windows!!
Cheers mate

oke, you guys, i solved the problem … its very easy
Go into the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE directory and delete OPENGL32.DLL Go into the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory and rename OPENGL32.DLL to OPENGL32.OLD Windows will pop up a dialog saying a protected system file has been modified and to insert your WinXP cdrom. Click Cancel and then Yes. Copy the file WINDOWS\APPPATCH\ACXTRNAL.DLL into your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory and rename it OPENGL32.DLL Finally reboot your machine.
i hope i helped ya

The DVA string modification is really for older computers and video cards. I’m not sure why anyone still mentions it.
Oh, and you really should state your exact problem and give your system information if you want help. I also recommend starting a new thread rather than burying it in another thread.
I have owned alice for years now. I just recently tried reinstalling it on my new computer. Well, I found out through reading all your post and researching online…check your drivers first!!! My card does not accept opengl games so I went to the site to download a driver. Also, make sure you have the latest version of direct X. The site I went to said the latest driver wouldn’t work unless I had directx.8. I went to the microsoft site…they now have directx.9. I am in the process of downloading both. I will get back and let you know if it worked or not…LOL…keep your fingers crossed!!!
Okay everyone having problems with the openGL subsystem. I downloaded the driver and Directx.9. I can now play Alice. My advice to you is read all the info when going to download the drivers and directx. It was a simple but complicated process, had I not read the info, I would not be playing the game. Now, I am downloading a driver for the joystick…lol. My work is never done!!!
