The Khronos OpenXR Working Group is pleased to announce the release of the Best Practices Validation Layer, now available in the OpenXR-SDK-Source repository. This new tool addresses a critical need in XR development: catching suboptimal API usage patterns that can lead to inconsistent behavior across different OpenXR runtimes.

W00t! Congrats on the new validation layer :tada: That’s a huge step forward for XR developers — portable and robust apps are exactly what the ecosystem needs.

Honestly, one of the reasons I shifted my own focus away from doing more VR work, was the lack of these tools. It excites me to see more progress with OXR tools. Back when I was experimenting, the lack of consistent validation and portability made things feel fragile. It’s great to see that gap being closed now, and I’m excited for the devs who’ll benefit from it.
