Maya3 ->MD2 ->OpenGL problems?

I have a problem loading in a maya 3 model and exporting it to MD2 and loading into OpenGL.
I have an animator friend working on a Maya3 model using a Maya3 plug-in in MD2. And when I load that model it blows up on the 100th frame. Can’t explain it, maybe the plug-in b/c the loader loads all other models from polycount.
I hope someone has a suggestion for me. Maybe another plug-in for Maya3 (free) or a program (free) or a technique. Any suggestion would be helpful thank you.
