Improve Redhat OpenGL performance to Mandrake's!

I have probably a preposturous/silly question. I am told that Mandrake’s OpenGL is better than Redhat’s as Redhat compiles it for an i386 and Mandrake to i586. My doubt is, is it true that Mandrake’s is better? At least in case of a 700MHz, 256MB RAM linux computer? Or is there anything that I can do to enhance the performance on Redhat?

Why you don`t just recompile the code to your exact computer?
