Hmm, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck. I started out with a Commodore 64 - I still remember “poke 53281, 0”. Does anyone else remember what it did? ::laughs::
There’s something to be said for experience, though like you I caught on to C/C++ rather easily at age 15.
I’ve done some “dabbling” in OpenGL myself and I have wanted to write a game for a long time. I’m finally getting around to learning what is necessary. What you have is commonly referred to as “the optimism of youth”. Don’t lose it, but don’t be too cocky either unless you can back it up with action. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, when all is said and done more will be said than done…
I have the OpenGL Superbible myself. It’s a decent book. Child prodigy or not, the older guys are going to be looking for experience before they will be satisfied. Working on a game independently will be just the ticket. The older folks here are likely to be intimidated
Trust me, I’m 21 and I train people twice my age; I know all about their intimidation and laughs in the meeting rooms, but as I work with each person in turn, they learn to maintain a healthy respect of my abilities; one-by-one they yield.
You can’t satisfy everyone, and your safest bet is not to even try. Instead, just do what you want…
I hope I never put myself in the position where the learning process is no longer important. At that point, life will no longer have meaning.
