Environment mapping - spherical

I am trying to create a reflective pond with ripples, but am totaly new to environment mapping. Does anybody have a tutorial or examples that I could learn from. Specificaly spherical mapping so I can produce correct ripples.

It shows water, ripples, and environment mapping !

The only thing I never understood about this demo is: why the hell don’t they use the normals provided in the ASE file… (it looks so much nicer !).
