color or material change in glu NURBS obj

I want to learn if i can use different colors
in a glu NURBS object. (wihtout texturing of course). I want to also know if an Edited glu NURBS can be converted to polygon data. I mean can i get the that smooth data calculated by the fuction of the NURBS.
And is there somewhere the source of that
NURBs implementation so that i can do these things for myself if it does not…
