OKay a brilliant idea for you to follow up would be S3 texture compression, make it bigger expand it then more gmes will support it, even with the old unreal tournament that only has a few compressed textures it looks brilliant most nvidia cards have s3tc so lots of hardware supports it.

You are confused. This forum solicits suggestions for future OpenGL spec revisions, not for application developers.

S3TC can already be used in OpenGL. Here . And here is a list of drivers supporting it .
There’s also a generic texture compression framework. You can use that if you want compression, but do not care about the specific compression scheme. Here and here .

Case in point, there’s already an OpenGL renderer for UT that can use the S3TC texture pack .
If you want more games to support S3TC, talk to game developers.
