I think rather than modelling it in openGL you should do it in any 3d modelling tool like 3dsmax or Maya and then load your model in openGL.
You should be able to get the material required to load the model in openGL from the web after doing a little google web search. Have a look at www.gamedev.net and www.gamasutra.com for reference/hints. Hope this will help.Thanx
