Desktop/laptop issue for vertex shaders

Have you tried this automated tool?

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/auto_detect.aspx

I recognize your problem finding drivers for your laptop card as I’ve had the same in an older Asus with an ATI mobility card 3450 (or such). The AMD website would simply send me to the normal drivers and those would not find a compatible chipset.

I believe the first time I fixed this was changing the driver’s INI files, but this was some time ago. Later on, I used that AMD utility and it actualy downloaded the correct mobility drivers. From there it’s been going correctly.

Also, for whatever reason, that utility doesn’t work on my desktop which uses an HD4890. Go figure.

Give it a try.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

This website is the one I was discussing. I select “download” and then run the application and after running the download it pops up with a dialog stating:

“AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer…”

It’s simply rubbish!

Hi

Going thro Sony’s support website my laptop model number VPCEC3SOE is not listed.

I opted for the nearest of VPCEC3390X, which took me to the Video updates and there is a new driver for the Mobility Radeon HD-5470, with details:

version 8.723.8.2000 date 30th Nov 2010

with the shipped driver 8.672.1.3000 date 2nd August 2010

The driver update release notes state:

“This utility updates the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 / 5470 / 5145 driver to version 8.723.8.2000 to resolve the following issues:
The display may become distorted after resuming from sleep or hibernation modes
Video distortion may occur during playback of MPEG2, AVI, or MMV video formats”

and no mention of OpenGL update and I suspect that this driver is a critical patch for the above mentioned bug and offers nothing new to the OpenGL/GLSL versions.

Graham

no mention of OpenGL update

The vast majority of people looking at that have no idea what OpenGL even is, let alone care about updates to it. So why would Sony put information there that pretty much nobody will care about?

If that’s a new driver version than the one you have, and you can install it, I would suggest that you do so.

Assuming you haven’t tried, give these a shot:
