Nope. I sent an email to Rob Mace in the super buffers workgroup recently asking this, and got this not too informative reply:
Yes, super buffers is still alive and actively being worked on to drive it to completion.
No ETA though.
Hm not good, so there is no portable way to render to vertex array yet, or have I overlooked something?

As I know, some draft implementation exist in Catalyst - but I really don’t know, is it workable.
