Some real working answers

okay that “Need Help” subject I replied to, wont exactly make you look… lol

Latest Features:
Gravity Simulation: c
Focal len and user defined star size: S,s
Random StarGate. Warps to the stars: 5
StarGate: 6

Code that answers many questions - got to know at least this much about the Matrix.
not exactly a newbie - misnomer, hah

More features:

Visual effect hint, enter Sge 09 (14,000 lightyrs), tab twice(key focus),
hit key ‘6’, select Sun target, Set button, Mode CameraView.
Rotationrate and tilt in one glMultMatrixd
Draw oRbit lines: r

To do:
Constellation boundary lines
Galaxy lib
Rings are horrible - redo

I expected loads of interest and teamwork with this glorious open source local universe -
for improvements and new ideas on star draw, orbit lines and ring shading -
you guys are no help! lol guess I’m on my own. That’s nothing new.

But for beginners, here’s where you learn 3D math - by working example - the only way.
Want 3D? Here’s a giant leap forward with all the prebuilt functions - peace and success to u.

pleased to announce the BMF support and thruster navigation in gravity mode.
just think if I had help … lol - what 2 minds could do …

example-answers many math questions inside!

I dont suppose anyone knows where there’s a view3ds example in opengl?
I had one. Today, an hour’s search effort found nothing in opengl. The world is lame lame lame. lol

opengl.org search for 3ds = Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

VBulletin is pretty decent for forum posting and management. But I would agree that its built-in search capability leaves something to be desired. Which is why I never use it, but instead…

Use a web search engine to search the opengl.org site. For instance:

[ul]
[li]3ds site:www.opengl.org [/li][li]lib3ds site:www.opengl.org [/li][/ul]
If you want to search just the discussion_boards (or just the wiki), that’s an easy modification

[ul]
[li]primitive restart site:www.opengl.org inurl:discussion_boards [/li][/ul]
Check out:

[li]https://code.google.com/archive/p/lib3ds/ [/li][/ul]

apparently need Assimp and Blender, and perhaps starting with loading .obj files

also I found this : http://www.open3mod.com/
zip file was not enough, required more libraries.
I ran the setup and now have a model viewer - loaded SB42.obj

found some models here https://www.trekmeshes.ch/fulllist.php

I had all these, – er still have them on old drives – star trek fleet

all the LEGO pieces for POV – if I ever get old data back online, doh!

previous years of POV

get the latest GL planets, with way fewer UI conflicts as of today – soon may have working-obj-support example

thanks for the info photon vader

made wormhole effect for warping …
blended inside mapped cylinder.
need some kind spiral map, just using clouds so far … any ideas?

dont be happy with what you got. heh
everyday for 3 months there’s been a better file available, stuff that should have been done right the first time.
can only do so much. tomorrow will be about the same, til it’s not.

check file mod-dates

copied from UT field. in glui that doesnt copy, heh

need a 2D map of this stuff.
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/j8CzTZonARs/maxresdefault.jpg
wouldn’t be that hard if my old puter was setup.
need opengl effects guru. come on people, lets do cool stuff.
so much to learn, so little time.

In a real world, there’d be this web site,
with every example routine ever devised and run, free for all.
promoting an explosion of creativity - the real stuff.
If only the world weren’t disappointingly self-centered.

RIP Carlin

ok this looks important, heh
http://cse.csusb.edu/tongyu/courses/cs520/notes/texture.php

and with cylinder described ,ere.
https://www.gamedev.net/forums/topic/629276-cylindrical-texture-mapping/

should be able to move u mapping down the wormhole …
I’m already forgetting stuff I learned last month, doh.

compiled first try !!

https://github.com/g-truc/glm/tags
https://github.com/opengl-tutorials/ogl/blob/master/common/objloader.cpp
https://github.com/gbersac/mesh_renderer-42/blob/master/examples/opengl_tuto_org/tutorial07_model_loading/objloader.hpp
doesnt mean I can render … yet.
should be working on obj and png support

https://github.com/Bly7/OBJ-Loader

only reason I got this far, was by having working examples,
not snips of code … where are the examples that work ?

I should be able to load 4 file type by now, not just bmf.
World, youre letting me down.

where’s open3mod source code? says it’s "open source.
I see someone tried to compile it, I’m not finding the source.

https://github.com/acgessler/open3mod/issues

https://sourceforge.net/projects/objmodelviewer/files/
https://sourceforge.net/projects/view3d/files/view3d/3.5/

http://mview.sourceforge.net/
Mesh Viewer supports the following 3D file formats:

PMesh format (used at the Vision group of the University of Edinburgh)
GTS format (from the Gnu Triangulation Library)
Geomview format (only format "OFF" or "COFF")
PLY format (only ASCII format)
VRML 1.0 format
VRML 2.0 format (VRML97)
Shallo format
Visualisation Toolkit VTK format (ASCII POLYDATA only)
Alias Wavefront / Java 3D OBJ format (ASCII polygon data only).

view3ds, David Ferrell, think it was, cant be found, I still have it on another computer tho.

and still have no way to export or compile BMF.
whos’ trying to make this so difficult.

https://code.google.com/archive/p/lib3ds/downloads
lib3ds-1.2.0.tar.gz
lib3ds.a – built with 13 warnings !!

https://www.opengl.org/discussion_boards/showthread.php/131863-how-to-use-lib3ds
worked over those files, added to project — and got
Process terminated with status 0 (1 minute(s), 31 second(s)) 0 error(s), 0 warning(s)

dare I try to load a 3ds now? prolly not with 13 warnings in the static lib.

also found yet another lib3ds to compile, maybe less warnings. got to find out i guess.
https://github.com/hoopoe/lib3ds
lots o work to do.

http://read.pudn.com/downloads86/sourcecode/windows/bitmap/332102/view3ds/README__.htm
the world should NOT have lost it.
guess I got to plug in old desktop to get it - easier said than done

here’s what i could salvage, apparently from China- NO they couldn’t leave the original file alone !!! and leave a download link !!!
they turned it into html – I had to paste each file and save… man they must ave nothing better to do.
http://www.pudn.com/Download/item/id/332102.html

http://trueinnerbeing.x10host.com/code/view3ds.zip

ok – found the remains in China
http://trueinnerbeing.x10host.com/code/view3d-china.zip

here’s what I got compiled - src included. win7-codeblocks !!
http://trueinnerbeing.x10host.com/code/view3ds.zip

it said it would compile BMF – that was just view3ds -
still working on it
