SGI sample implementation on Red Hat

I’m a new Unix/Linux user. I’m using Maya on Red Hat and would like to use SGI sample implementation of the OpenGL API instead of mesa. Is there anyone how can help me with this? It may not be a good idea for a beginner to start with such a difficult task, but I have no choice.

Is there any reason you want to use SGIs implementation rather than Mesa? I believe Mesa is more up to date than SGI.
If you have an nVidia card. You should probably install these drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_display_1.0-3123

Otherwise check the Direct Rendering Project: http://dri.sourceforge.net/

I have no experience with ATI and Linux though.
