Saphire Radeon 9200 & OpenGL problem

I have problem with my Saphire Radeon 9200 128MB RAM AGP 8x with standard cooling.

My PC config is:

  • Mainboard: VIA P4PB 400-FL (with updated BIOS)
  • CPU: Celeron 2000 (~2200 MHz overclocked)
  • 512MB 333MHz DDR RAM

And when I playing Quake 3 or IL 2 Sturmovik (both OpenGL games) then the VPU Recovery resets my GPU and I must restart my computer. I have Windows XP with Service Pack 1 and all available updates, and I have also the latest Catalyst 4.1 Drivers.

This problem doesn’t occurs in Direct3D games (for example Unreal Tournament 2003).

Is this a hardware problem or only sofware?

Do you have the latest VIA 4-in-1 update?

Is this crash occuring after playing for a while or immediate?

Have you tried opening the case and putting a fan blowing right into the case? (This tests for possible heat problems)

  1. I’m think that I have latest 4in1.
  2. Crash occurs after for a while.
  3. I don’t think that this is heat problem because Direct3D-based games doesn’t crashes.

Does that still happen if you dont overclock?

However you could also try to do the following, go to:

Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Smartgart

and disable Fastwrites, if that doesnt help try lowering your AGP speed until the problem goes away.

There are kown problems with VIA chipsets and ATI cards.
