realtime hatching

Hi,

I’ve read the paper from Hoppe and the nvidia stuff about realtime hatching rendering ( http://developer.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=gdc_hatch ), and I wonder if I might use the technique of 3d texture to blend the tonal art maps or the two dotproduct method? Is 3d texturing slow on modern hardware (Radeon 8500/GF3-4) ? Should I use the second one to have a real blending (mean with a weight for each texture of the tonal art maps whereas 3d texturing just do a mipmapping stuff)?
