particles vs. points


i wonder if anyone got results/experience of using glPoints rather than textured polys or whatever for a particle engine.
i’ve seen nehe’s tutorial and some others,so please dont point me in that direction.

I will point you to nehe tutorial. Just replace the square with a point or lines!

Points make for a very cheesy looking particle engine. That’s how I did my first one and it sucked…

points are faster, but look a tad lame. lines can be quite pleasing.

to be fair, you can replace particles with animated geometry, which can kill your frame times, but it can look nice. More you draw, slower it goes, end of story.
