OpenGL Performance in Half-Life - help?

I have been playing Half-Life in OpenGL for as long as I can remember, and have never had a problem. Recently I installed the DirectX v8.1 patch, and updated my video card driver… now when I play my framerate will randomly drop to a steady 4, and stay there for 10 seconds. I’ve tried changing drivers, re-installing the game… and I’m all out of ideas.

OS: Windows 2000
Card: ATI Xpert 128

Any help is highly appreciated.

Doh…

The new drivers fix what the ati patch was doing… From what I figured out, the ati patch is making your card use radeon gl thingies… <I’m not technical, but it was something like that>

Disable the patch;

ati_npatch “0”

That should fix it.
