OpenGL + games = too dark!?

help! i’ve got a ViperV770 TNT2 Ultra, and when i try to use OpenGL in Unreal Tournament, or Quake3, its too damn dark.

My monitor is at its max bright/contrast, and i don’t want to change the gamma tab under my display settings as it makes Windows too bright.

Is there anything i can do about this? Direct3d doesn’t have this problem, but i want to experiment with OpenGL.
