opengl --> 3dfx (voodoo2)

I began to learn to programming with opengl,
but i cannot use my 3dfx card and
i dont know how to use it ?
(software rendering is very slow)

I search on your web site, on and more …

Someone said to me to replace opengl32.dll by a dll made for opengl, associate with my card (Diamond Monster II), and rename it by opengl32.dll
I found the dll use by Quake2, I install MiniGl but when a replace this dll by opengl32.dll that doesn’t work.
( I have no knowledge on Windows)

I am sure there is a solution and i will be really happy to have help about this problem.

Make sure you have the latest drivers from 3DFX.
Check out the NeHe tutorials for setting up rendering context and all that good stuff.
Make sure your Voodoo card is in fact your primary display adaptor.

This might not be true, but I’ve heard that you should put your 3dfxvgl.dll file in your programs folder (but NOT you windows folder) and call it opengl32.dll

I’ve found the MESA 3dfx–>Glide drivers run pretty fast, and can be used in place of the microsoft Opengl32.dll and Glu32.dll files. I place them in the same folder as the application.exe I am testing.

They can be downloaded somewhere off of the Mesa site:
I tried to find them for you, but I didn’t have any luck this morning. You might have to write the site administrator.

If you send me your email address, I’ll mail the drivers straight to you.

Here is a site where you can find both information and 3dfx drivers…

I have a file that will do just what you want. I got it off the web so long ago that I can’t remember where I found it. I am not sure how well it supports OpenGL, but I have been programming with it for about a year and have not had any problems. If you want it, just email me at and I will send it to you.
