Names for 3D engines

Where to find some good name for a 3d engine???
How do You handle this???
I’m asking because I don’t think that
MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE
is a good name for graduation project…

If you find nothing but such a ridiculous name, at least you can claim to be keeping on the tradition.

I remember reading ‘Zen of Graphics programming’ by mabrash and he called his engine X-Sharp !

There is a 3d engine list somewhere on the web. At least it tells you what haven been taken. Unfortunately, I don’t have the url.
I suggest you emphasis the features that are unique in your engine.
The Master Of The Universe sounds as silly as “DirectX”.

I always thoght it was cool when 3d engines are named after something, like for example a Greek God or something.

Good names for just about anything that’s supposedly powerful and cool:

Names of gods and mythical beings (Zeus, Shiva, Hercules, Cereberus, Ra, etc.)

Something to do with forces of nature (Tornado, Tsunami, Hurricane, Volcano, etc.)

Astronomy related names (Orion, Mercury, etc)

Other random powerful things (TNT, Dynamite, Fusion)

Just a couple ideas…

Hehe, I like your list, j.

However, shouldn’t “Orion” and “Mercury” be up in “Names of gods and mythical beings”?

Anyway, ya gotta name your 3d engine by yourself. Perhaps make it first and choose a name that fits the capabilities.

im afraid the ‘bollux’ engine is taken (this handsome chap is the lucky owner http://uk.geocities.com/sloppyturds/gotterdammerung.html )
but there are still many others u can choose
eg ‘reclining seat’ ‘whos been leaving skid marks in my gruts’ (actually i might grab that one myself) + many more

Zeno:

Yeah, I guess that Orion and Mercury both are mythological as well as related to astronomy. How about Andromeda?

j

I’ve always thought ‘Brian’ would be a good name for a 3D engine.

Or maybe ‘Nigel’.

Or ‘Colin’.

How about: OFF-TOPIC

Just kidding…

Instead of naming it “Master of the Universe” how about “Orko” or some other character from the He-Man/She-Ra cartoons. They were, after all the Masters of the Universe…

Thanks,
I have some time and I’ll certainly find out sth…

Andromeda is another name from the mythology, check f.i.

Looks like game engine developpers are not the only ones pilfering cool names

I call mine ‘OctoPort’, because it uses Octrees and Portals…

Sounds fine to me.
