Maya with OpenGL

I’m new to this…i’m suppose to create a 3D game engine using Maya and OpenGL. Anyone could please help me? My main problem is how on earth i want to get things work with Maya and OpenGL together?

If you dont know how this goes you may want to try working with a model format that is already created.(I started with Quake II MD2 file format) With Maya you’ll have to export it into that file type in which your 3D engine will read it and display it. But you can create your own file format, use others, and can use Mayas format but its difficult to read and very useless when makeing a game engine.
