Image/Texture Updating by DateTime

I have a series of images I would like use as a texture, that I would like to have change according to datetime. How do I implement this in COLLADA?

Presently, I have made several geometrically identical models with different images on them and have loaded them according to the datetime, but I think there must be a better way.

You asset-based approach is fine.

You could optimize the representation a bit by using one geometry and binding different materials to it based on your dateTime. See spec Chapter 7: texturing, and Chapter 8: bind_material.
