How to use SGIX_pixel_texture extension?


I would like to try out the SGIX_pixel_texture extension. I see, that this extension is available on Octane and
an PC with WildCat 5110. I write some code,
create a 3D texture, and enable blending, and enable this extension with PixelTexGenSGIX function, and put some RGB image with glDrawPixels, but I do not see any result.
