How can I install OpenGL on Linux?

Hi,

I’m a newbie in the world of Linux and I would make 3D games using Opengl. I’ve installed Mesa 4.0.2. Where can I find GLU and GLUT? URL, howto, tutorials,… ?

I use: Mandrake 8.0 Xfree86 3.3.6

Thanks for help. Sorry for my bad English, but I speak french.

First of all you should really consider upgrading to Mandrake 8.2

GLU and GLUT are part of:

libMesaglut3-devel-4.0.1-4mdk
libMesaglut3-4.0.1-4mdk
libMesaGLU1-devel-4.0.1-4mdk
libMesaGLU1-4.0.1-4mdk

Hi,

Where can I find this files?

On your Mandrake 8.2 CDs, or any Mandrake mirror. Visit http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ for a list of mirrors.

Thanks.

I’ve finded the files on the CD’s.

Don’t forget that you need Xfree 4.x to access hardware acceleration.

You can either download the .tar on sourceforge.net, but it could be complicate for a newbie, if you’re (I’am too… ;P).

To install it faster and in a more reliable way : use mandrake command
-> XFdrake --expert

and choose Xfree 4.0.2 and it is installed !
French Linux rules… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
