Generic lightmaps?

Every lightmap tutorial I’ve seen generates a unique lightmap for each polygon. Is there a tutorial somewhere that demonstrates a technique like this:

I made this image to describe the idea I had, except I have no idea where to start. Does this technique have a name, are there any unforseen limitations, or is there a better way?

What you are describing here is per-pixel lighting :slight_smile: Yes, i’ve already seen many documents about it, look at Nvidia’s site for per-pixel and advanced per-pixel demos.

Unforeseen limitations? Yes, a big one. You can’t have shadows.
