Drawing text on a cube

Hello,
I want to display text on each of the 6 quads of a 3D cube.
I haven’t got a clue how to even start…
My browser tells me that NeHe’s tutorial “can’t be displayed” and I’m really lost here.
Sorry for the newbie question, but if anyone can please help, it would be great!
