Can't Play Q2 in OpenGL mode on Macintosh!

I’ve recently upgraded my older PM 7500, and am starting to venture out into the gaming world (better late than never, eh?). I am trying to play Quake 2 on an ATI Radeon PCI card, but cannot get it to run using OpenGL mode. Here are the system stats:

                Mac OS 9.0
CPU upgraded to PowerPC G3 @ 466 MHz (interex card)
                144 MB RAM
                OpenGL 1.2.1
                QuickDraw 3D 1.6
                Radeon update 1.1.1
                Virtual Memory ON
                17" Apple monitor
                Q2 upgraded to 1.0.3

In addition, I’ve allocated 55,000k - 60,000k to the game

When I try to run Quake 2 using OpenGL mode, the image on my display looks okay, but there’s a 1-4 second delay between any keyboard or mouse input, and any movement on the screen. Correspondingly, the sound seems to be synched to the screen movement, so it is also garbled.

144 MB RAM should be enough for Quake 2, right? Since I think I’ve got sufficient RAM, and this card is supposed to support 3d with OpenGL, I’m not sure what to try to get this to work smoothly.

Any ideas? Thanks!
