Building a Flight sim - read on

Hello all,

I’m about to embark on a long journey. I’ve been reading a lot about GL and I’d like to build a flight sim( Along the lines of Jane’s ATF - more for fun than realism). I’ve been wondering what kind of structure I should use for my landscapes ? I’ve heard a lot about octrees and I dont know if thats the best/easiest to use. I’d like to have the terrain look realistic. Any help would be appreciated.


In the flight-shoot’em-up (this can’t be called a sim anymore ) I use voxels with texturemapping and fog. Just add multitexturing and you’ll have one hell of a landscape.
