Once again - after a few years - I’m trying to wrap my head around implementing some practical workflow for BasisU/KTX compression to include it into our current glTF-pipeline.
It was very hard for me to implement to our pipeline (and we didn’t in the end), as it isn’t really supported in all the 3D-sofwares out there, except Gestaltor so far (afaik).
But we are still aware that BasisU may still be the way to go, to push to the latest standards.
We are mainly using Blender for managing and setting up our assets, and we were able to establish a very reliable and standardized pipeline for our purposes. After snooping around in Gestaltor a little, I am very impressed by the QOL features it provides for glTF editing. But it just doesn’t feel right to include it in a large scale pipeline (yet?). The command line tools that are out there work great too, but again, it doesn’t feel right to do this for every project.
Maybe I just missed a lot of crucial things and that’s why I wanted to start a thread about this for 2025. (Most of the latest conversations date back to 2023 oO)
