Hi! Does anybody knows how to import normals from 3ds format?
You can select some options if you start the ase exporter in 3dsmax.You have to activate the exportation of the normals there first.
Then they should be pretty musch self-explaining by looking into the *.ASE.

Normals aren’t contained within .3ds file, you have to compute them yourself from the face normals (which you can compute from vertex data), utilizing also the smoothing info.
Basically, when you don’t take smoothing groups into account, for each vertex you just average the normals of the faces that are sharing it.
